ENGINEERING & HYDROLOGICAL SURVEY ON THE BANANIYAR CANAL

Hydrological survey, topographic & geodetic survey, soil laboratory analyzes

A contract was signed with the organization that won the open tender, and CASPIAN GEOMATICS LLC carried out engineering prospecting works and hydrological survey within the framework “Preparation of feasibility study and submittals for the reconstruction of the canal feeds the Bananiyar reservoir (Alinjachay)” project.

Issues that were raised and resolved:

  • Conducting topographic surveys along the Bananiyar canal (7.7 km);
  • Carrying out topographical surveys of the alternative project lines (1.8km and 2.25km);
  • Conducting GPS static surveys and leveling works on reference points;
  • Preparation longitudinal and transverse profiles of the Bananiyar canal and the 2 project lines;
  • Creation of a digital relief model of the area;
  • Development of 3D digital model of Bananiyar canal;
  • Installation of geodetic reference points, determination of coordinates and elevations;
  • Creation of digital topography maps of Bananiyar canal and 2 alternative project lines;
  • Conducting hydrological surveys of Alinjachay;
  • Conducting 220 p.m geological drilling and sampling, soil laboratory analyzes;
  • Creation of geological-lithological columns and profiles;
  • Preparation of the geographic information system (GIS) of the investigation area;
  • Carrying out water pumping works on boreholes, calculation of hydrogeological parameters;

For this purpose, 40 pits were excavated in the area, including 40 pits with a depth of 5 m, 2 geological boreholes with a depth of 10 m, and the total volume of the excavation and drilling were 220 p.m. At the same time, engineering topography surveys of 2 alternative project lines (lengths 1.8 km and 2.25 km) were performed.

Annual flow, hydrographic characteristics, maximum and minimum flow, dependent discharges, water consumption of hydrotechnical equipment, maximum water consumption of rain floods were studied and investigated according to the hydrological surveys of Alinjachay. At the same time, Alinjachay’s water consumption for the long-term period was analyzed, statistical parameters and values for different years were calculated.
