“IMPLEMENTATION OF TOPOGRAPHIC WORKS ON 3,200 HECTARE AREA OF YEVLAKH AND GORANBOY DISTRICTS”

Initial evaluation of the area is necessary to carry out agricultural activities and create infrastructure (road, electricity, water lines and etc.) which is possible by implementation detailed topographic survey works. Besides, designing of the area is important as well which requires use of topographic plan.

The  contract was concluded between “CASPIAN GEOMATICS”  scientific-research & engineering company and Client, in order to implement engineering-topographic work  for cultivation of different kind of agricultural plants in  Goranboy and Yevlakh districts.

Project area.

The area of the project covers Yevlakh district from the east and Goranboy district from the west. The project area is located at the feet of the north-east of Small Caucasus (Figure1).  Altitude increases from the south part of the project area towards the north. The south parts of the area is partly plain but moving towards the north the altitude increases and this altitude changes within certain intervals (60 m and etc.).   Therefore, the surface structure  of the project area is assessed as changeable. The north of the project area is covered by Bozdagh Mountain, which stretches along the coast of Mingachevir water basin.  Korchay, which belongs to Kur river basin, passes through its south part.

The territory are inhabited by wolves, foxes, gray rabbit, field mouse, francolin, little bustard,  bustard, gazelle, roe deer, squirrel, jackal, adder.

Aim of the project.

The aim of the project is to implement engineering-topographic work for cultivation of different kind of agricultural plants in  Goranboy and Yevlakh districts.  The goal covers the followings:

  • To make 1:5000 scale topographic plan of the area.
  • To determine 6 bench marks (Rp) and installation thereof on the allocated location (Figure 2).
  • To implement survey work providing 70-100 m distance between points and etc.

Certain requirements has been suggested by the Client in order to achieve the main goal and implement topographic survey work, and technical task has been prepared.

Methodology 

Certain procedures have been observed for making topographic survey of the area of Goranboy and Yevlakh districts. Methodically cameral analyze of the project area has been initially done, cartographic materials used, relief of the location reviewed, comparative analyze implemented with different resolution satellite images, and high resolution  plan of the location reviewed as well.

Then, visual inspection of the area has been done and the site has been assessed in respect of topography (methodology). The main issues for specialists were identification of locations of benchmarks in the area and installation thereof. At the same time benchmarks should be able to see each other. Therefore, correct selection of altitude criteria is required as well. After determination of locations of bench marks in the project area, installation thereof have been commenced.  It should be noted that modern devices have been used during installation of bench marks, specifying control points, and execution of survey work (Figure 3). Besides, automatized designing systems and geographical information system (GIS) software is widely utilized.

In accordance with methodology, comprehensive work has been executed for implementation of engineering-topographic work in the project area on identification of installed geodesy points in the site. Thus, the following issues have been solved in this stage:

  • Measurement of geodesy points in static mode
  • Calculation of measurement results and balancing

As the reference base point, Ganja and Sheki RTCM-REF GNSS  points have been used for measurement of geodesy points. Geodesy points refer to these base points and satellite receive grade is set 15 grade from the horizon in Static mode and average observation is set 5 seconds.  Centralizing the device by optic tregger over a point, the height was measured with metal ribbon which is on GPS set with 0.001 m precision. Later the results of measurement work have been calculated and balanced. Then, presentation of control points and geodesy points in WGS84 system as well as in UTM 38 and orthometric altitude has been achieved.

Locations of the nearest points have been analyzed for calculation of measurement and balancing thereof on geodesy points.   Consequently, Ganja and Sheki points have been selected as nearer points. They have been contacted, the exact coordinates of benchmarks have been calculated through the same stations. One point have been worked on during static mode, as a base, within interval of 30-60 minutes.

About engineering-topographic work executed in the site on the project area

The site have been comprehensively surveyed to make topographic survey of Goranboy and Yevlakh districts, coordinates of turning points of different facilities have been specified, coordinates of all installed benchmarks identified in static mode, coordinates of roads that have become impassible due to rain and storm water identified as well. Besides, high pressure underground gas line existing in the site have been surveyed as well.

Dams in some parts of the project area have been washed away, consequently, despite being site road it have become improper for transport. Entering to the project area through most parts have become problem. Despite moving on footpath is possible the same site is not suitable for a vehicle (Figure 4). Hardly-passable parts have been solved by our specialists pouring soil on the same parts.

It should be noted that all water basins available on the site have been surveyed with high accuracy, size of dams of seasonal water basins have been taken (Figure 5).  Height of most beams on the site is 70, 80 & sometimes 1 meter. Despite measurements have been done in static mode, measurements have been taken by rover method on the area, methods have been comparatively reviewed, and consequently minimum difference occurred which shows accuracy of the measurement.

13593 pieces of points have been obtained on the area, consequently making of a 4 – page 1:5000 scale topographic map  and creating of TIN have been achieved.                             

Result

So, within framework of engineering-topographic work implemented on Goranboy and Yevlakh districts installation of required number of benchmarks have been implemented, their locations identified, and coordinates of benchmarks specified using Ganja and Sheki points, which are near.  Detailed topographic survey have been implemented on the area, coordinates of all elements (seasonal water basins, stony facilities and other facilities) identified, and number of characteristic relief points amounted to 13593.  Consequently TIN of the area have been created and 1:5000 scale topographic map made.  Considering width of the area the topographic map has been divided in accordance with 4 pages.

Note:  A 46-page Report has been prepared with regard to all work implemented within the project. Models, maps, methodology and etc. are more comprehensively reflected in the Report. The Report contains cameral processing results of engineering-topographic work as well implemented on the area.
